01 who we are

Lingora App LLC (“Lingora”, “we”, “us”) runs the Lingora website and web app (the “Service”). This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use and share it, and the choices and rights you have. For users in the European Economic Area and the UK, Lingora App LLC is the data controller.

02 information we collect

Account information. When you sign in with Google, Google shares your name, email address, profile photo, and a Google account identifier with us. We do not receive your Google password.

Learning data. The lessons you finish and your scores, your flashcard review schedule, daily learning activity (minutes per day, used for streaks), your selected language, and preferences such as palette, display name, daily goal, reminder time, sound, and autoplay settings.

Lingora Plus waitlist. If you join the waitlist, we store your email address, the plan you picked, the languages you were interested in, and where in the app you joined, so we can tell you when Plus launches.

Technical information. Like most websites, our hosting and infrastructure providers automatically log information such as your IP address, browser and device type, pages requested, and the date and time of requests. We use it to run, secure, and troubleshoot the Service.

Analytics (only with your consent where required). If we enable analytics through Google Tag Manager, we collect information about how the website is used, such as pages viewed and approximate location derived from IP address. Where the law requires consent, analytics cookies are not set unless you accept them.

Purchases (when available). If you buy something, our payment provider (Stripe) collects your payment details. We receive your name, email, shipping address, and what you ordered, but not your full card number.

Messages you send us. If you email us, we keep your message and contact details to respond.

03 what we don’t collect

  • We do not record your voice or use your microphone. Lesson audio only plays sound.
  • We do not collect your contacts, photos, or precise location.
  • Share images are created on your own device. When you share to another platform, you send it directly to that platform; we do not receive the image.
  • We do not sell your personal information.

04 how we use information

  • to provide the Service, sign you in, and save and sync your progress across devices;
  • to personalize lessons, streaks, and reminders, and remember your settings;
  • to maintain security, prevent abuse, and fix problems;
  • to understand how the Service is used and improve lessons and features (using aggregated or de-identified data where possible);
  • to process orders and payments when purchases are available;
  • to respond to you and send important notices about the Service or these policies;
  • to comply with the law and enforce our Terms of Service.

For users in the EEA and UK, our legal bases are: performing our contract with you (providing the Service), our legitimate interests (security, improvement, and support, balanced against your rights), your consent (analytics cookies), and legal obligations.

05 who we share it with

We share personal information only with service providers who help us run Lingora, under contracts that limit how they use it:

  • Google: sign-in, and analytics through Google Tag Manager if enabled;
  • Supabase: account authentication and storage of your learning progress;
  • Vercel: website and app hosting;
  • Stripe: payment processing, when purchases are available.

If your browser uses an online text-to-speech voice for lesson audio (some browsers do this automatically), the words being spoken may be processed by your browser’s provider under its own privacy policy.

We may also disclose information when required by law or legal process, to protect the rights, safety, or property of Lingora, our users, or others, or as part of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, in which case this policy will continue to apply. We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

06 cookies and local storage

We use a small amount of storage in your browser:

  • Essential: your sign-in session, your learning progress and settings, and your cookie choice. The Service does not work properly without these.
  • Preferences: for example, the color palette you picked on the website.
  • Analytics (optional): cookies set by Google tags, only after you accept them where consent is required.

You can change your analytics choice at any time with the “cookie settings” link in the website footer, and you can clear stored data in your browser settings. Clearing it signs you out and may remove progress that has not synced to your account.

07 how long we keep it

We keep account and learning data while your account exists. When you ask us to delete your account, we delete your account and progress within 30 days, except where we must keep certain information for legal, tax, accounting, or security reasons. Server logs are kept for a limited period by our hosting providers. Order records are kept as long as required by tax and accounting law.

08 your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • access the personal information we hold about you and get a copy of it;
  • correct inaccurate information;
  • delete your account and personal information;
  • object to or restrict certain processing, and withdraw consent at any time;
  • receive your data in a portable format.

To make a request, email privacy@lingoraapp.com from the email address on your account. We may need to verify your identity before acting, and we will respond within the time the law requires. You can also use an authorized agent where the law allows. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.

California residents: under the CCPA as amended by the CPRA, you have the rights listed above, including the right to know the categories of personal information we collect (identifiers such as name and email, internet activity, and learning data), the purposes described in this policy, and the categories of service providers we share it with. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined in California law.

EEA and UK residents: you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

09 children

The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, contact privacy@lingoraapp.com and we will delete it.

10 international transfers

We are based in the United States, and our service providers may process information in the United States and other countries. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses, for transfers of personal information from the EEA or UK.

11 security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections and database rules that let each user access only their own progress. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

12 changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will change the “last updated” date above, and for material changes we will give you reasonable notice, for example on the website or in the app.
